The Office of Chairwoman Nora Vargas of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, is expanding its communications team and is seeking a creative and innovative Digital Communications Strategist, who will proactively work to expand the Supervisor’s presence, strengthen the brand voice, and engage audiences on digital platforms.
The Digital Communications Strategist will be responsible for creating and managing the organic digital communication initiatives.
Through creative services and multimedia storytelling, the Digital Communications Strategist will help elevate Supervisor Vargas’ priorities and work on behalf of the residents of District 1.
As a Digital Communications Strategist, you will collaborate with the entire District 1 team and will report to Director of Communications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, design, develop, implement, oversee, and maintain a digital communications strategy to amplify Chairwoman Vargas’ voice and strengthen relationships with key audiences Design engaging visual and multimedia content across digital platforms, and on occasion, collateral print materials Develop and maintain a content/editorial calendar for all digital platforms; Responsible for writing copy, editing, scheduling, and distribution of digital communications including social media, website updates, stories, newsletters, and announcements Serve as primary content creator and manager for website.
Monitor and provide regular reports on web performance Leads the development of social media strategies and tactics specific to each channel to achieve communications goals; tracks and reports on performance and recommends adjustments to tactics as needed Assist with press conferences, town halls, and virtual or in-person community events in various capacities including managing professional video, photo, and audio equipment Availability for occasional work on evenings or weekends Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS 2 years+ of web management and digital communications experience Portfolio demonstrating graphic, video and design expertise, creativity, and strong storytelling skills Exceptional verbal/written communications skills; creative messaging, marketing experience a plus Experience in any of the following design products and a desire to learn more: Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, or Adobe Suite of products Experience in managing social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok as well as email marketing platforms like Mailchimp, Nationbuilder, Constant Contact, or other Ability to work independently and organized in a fast-paced environment, while managing several projects simultaneously and adjusting to frequently shifting immediate demands Self-starter with excellent project, time management, and organizational skills Commitment to equity, reproductive, racial, social, and economic justice, and their intersections and possess good political acumen.
Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred SALARY AND BENEFITS Salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000, compensation will be based on experience.
Defined benefit pension plan with additional savings options through 457 and 401 accounts County-paid flexible credits that allow you to choose from a variety of benefit plans, including medical, dental and vision insurances, short term disability and critical illness programs (some costs may be out of pocket depending upon individual elections).
