JOB The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications from persons with proven law enforcement experience for the position of Deputy Sheriff-Detentions/Court Services-Lateral.
Newly hired Deputy Sheriff Detentions/Court Services laterals are assigned the Detention's Service Bureau.
Assignments are based on the needs of the department and on the applicant's training and experience.
Deputy Sheriffs-Detentions/Court Services perform various general custodial/law enforcement functions, including the safety, supervision, and control of incarcerated persons, and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable traits: communicates effectively, knowledge worker, customer-focused, values and respects others, drives to excel, teamwork and collaboration, continuous learning, demonstrates ethical behavior, and supportive of change.
The following are additional pay incentives and premiums that are available for those who are eligible: New Lateral Incentive Pays up to $20,000.
Night Shift Premium/ Shift Differential - 5% with four (4) or more hours worked between 5:00 PM - 8:00 AM.
In-Service Training Premium - $45 biweeklyBilingual Premium - $32.
30 biweeklyPrisoner Transportation Premium - 3% of base payDetective Assignment Premium - 5% of base payCorporal Assignment Premium - 5% of base pay***Effective September 9, 2022, this hard-to-recruit position qualifies for the Employee Referral Reward Program.

***MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION: Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
Qualifying requirements are: 1) Possession of a Board of State & Community Corrections (BSCC) or a Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) certificate awarded upon graduation from the County of San Diego Deputy Sheriff-Detentions/Court Services Academy.
OR;2) Successful completion and possession of a valid certificate or proof of completion of the Board of State & Community Corrections (BSCC) or Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Adult Corrections Officer Core Course (ACO) with less than a three (3) year break in service.
AND Successful completion and possession of a valid certificate or proof of completion of the California POST PC 832 Arrest (40 hours) AND Firearms (24 hours) Course (total of 64 hours) and possession of a valid Certificate of Completion with less than a three (3) year break in service.
OR;3) Successful completion, at any time, of a California P.

POST PC 832 Arrest (40 hours) and Firearms (24 hours) Course (total of 64 hours) certificates of completion must be provided at the time of appointment.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment.
Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, APPLICANTS MUST MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION: (a) Must be at least 18 years of age.

This is your responsibility.
UNSCHEDULED CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE ADMITTED.
If you do not meet the minimum qualifications, as determined by the application screening, the Department of Human Resources will notify you via e-mail.
If you receive this email, you will not be eligible to take the Qualification Shoot examination.
SUMMARY OF THE OVERALL EVALUATION PROCESS: 1.
Completion of online application and supplemental questions.
2.
Qualifying Shoot Examination, Pre-Screening Orientation, and Physical Agility Test.

Candidates who pass the Qualification Shoot Examination will attend a Pre-Screening Orientation and the Physical Agility Test.
Candidates may be invited to participate in the background investigation and selection interview processes listed below.

Comprehensive Background Investigation which takes a minimum of four to six months to complete.
The Background Investigation process will include a Physical Abilities Examination.
The Sheriff's Department will communicate the date, time, location, and description of the Physical Abilities exam to the candidate during the background investigation process.
Applicants must pass the Qualification Shoot, Pre-Screening Orientation, and Physical Agility Test in order to be placed on the 12-month eligibility list for Deputy Sheriff Detention/Court Services Lateral.
4.
Computer Voice Stress Analysis Exam and Employment Interview.
5.
Selection interview conducted by Sheriff's sworn management.
6.
Psychological Evaluation conducted by a County appointed Psychologist.
7.
Medical Exam conducted by a County Physician.
