The Position The Seaside Day Camp Director is responsible for planning, coordinating and delegating duties at Seaside Day Camp.
The Seaside Camp Director actively leads, motivates, encourages and supervises campers, and helps to creates a memorable recreational experience for campers.
About the Camp The City of Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department provides Seaside Day Camps which offer recreational activities in a fun and active environment for 5 to 12 year old youths.
Day camps are conducted Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.
m.
to 6:00 p.
m.
at various periods throughout the year.
Age appropriate activities are based on weekly themes, featuring one field trip per week to a local attraction, as well as crafts, cooking, sports, special events, and organized group games and tournaments.
Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to) Essential Duties Responsible for the planning and the implementation of the daily activity schedule.
Supervises up to 60 youths ages 5-12 years old and Counselors in Training (CIT's), ages 13-16; and the coordination of day camp staff.
Leads camp activities including but not limited to: special events, indoor and outdoor games, crafts, sports, cooking, snacks, and field trips.
Responsible for the safety and care of all participants and counselors.
Knowledge of Customer service principles.
Rules, regulations, standards and guidelines of team sports.
Operational characteristics, services, and activities of assigned program.
Recreational activities, games, sports, arts and crafts, special events, equipment used for various activities.
Basic rules and regulations governing competitive group athletic games and sporting events.
Instructional techniques.
Work effectively and tactfully with youth, teens, adults and other staff members.
Communication skills, oral and written.
Basic mathematical and reading concepts.
Record keeping.
Computer programs related to area of assignment.
Photographic equipment use.
Food handling.
English language, grammar, and punctuation.
Laws and regulations in driving a vehicle.
Skills in Providing customer service.
Organization.
Designating duties.
Responding to emergency situations and administering first aid as necessary; Oral and written communication.
Ability to encourage good sportsmanship and cooperative participation to members of the public.
Using computers and related software applications.
Record keeping.
Performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Driving a vehicle.
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.

Minimum Qualifications Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in area of specialization, recreation, leisure studies or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience plus three years of increasingly responsible experience in a specialized recreation program area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
