Primarily responsible for the delivery of coordinated, clinical nursing care for geriatric (and some adult) patients on an LPS-designated inpatient psychiatric unit and/or Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Program and for the day-to-day management of the related clinical activities.
Independently coordinates the plan of care with the client, the family, and the interdisciplinary team.
Competent to perform as Team Leader and Charge Nurse, oversee unit flow, operations, and work standards, provide and oversee direct patient care, perform patient assessments, administer medications (inpatient), eligible for 5150 designation and responsible to insure safety at all times.
Knowledgeable in and competent in providing and modeling educational group/individual/milieu therapy and a structured treatment program.
Background and knowledge of medical-surgical illnesses and treatments required.
Other duties include: Admissions, discharges, intakes, crisis calls, legal (Certification and Riese) mental health hearings (inpatient), patient assignments, acuities, patient rounding, Physician rounding, case management, discharge planning, patient education, Treatment Planning, Behavioral Health assessments in ED and medical floors (inpatient), insure throughput from E.
D.
and acute care areas (inpatient), interface with physicians, community, families, as well as other external community resources and internal customers.
Must work well as a team-member and have excellent verbal and written skills.
Understands and adheres to the California Nurse Practice Act, The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing.
The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization and shall participate as needed in patient handling.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience: 1 year of experience as RN in acute adult inpatient psychiatric unit, background and knowledge
of psychiatric and medical-surgical illnesses and treatments OR current RN with 7+ years LVN in acute adult inpatient psychiatric unit with treatment/therapy experience
Preferred Experience: Inpatient: 1 year of experience as RN in adult and/or geriatric acute psychiatric inpatient unit
Outpatient: 3 - 5 years of experience as RN in adult and/or geriatric acute psychiatric inpatient unit or Partial Hospitalization and/or Intensive Outpatient programs
Required Certification: 5150 designation and certification by Palomar Health Behavioral Health Services and San Diego County Mental Health to place patients on involuntary holds and maintains all aspects of ensuring patient rights within 6 months of hire
American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
Preferred Certification: Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health RN
