DESCRIPTION UC San Diego Health Sciences encompasses UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system, UC San Diego School of Medicine, one of the nation's top research-intensive medical schools, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern California's first public school of pharmacy, and Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science.

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology.
The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD’s School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, the incumbent delivers specialized expertise using advanced knowledge and sophisticated strategies in student learning skills within specific academic disciplines, including anatomy, histology, and related subjects.
The position involves providing comprehensive training in pedagogic skills to lecturers and faculty, ensuring a high standard of educational delivery.
Additionally, the incumbent develops and enhances understanding and optimizing learning in preclinical courses, directly engaging with medical and pharmacy students to provide tutorial assistance tailored to their unique academic needs.
The role requires designing and implementing a Teaching Assistant (TA) training program for students, including supervising and mentoring students overseeing individual sessions.
The incumbent is also charged with developing sessions for the summer pre-matriculation course, Core Topics in Biomedical Sciences, and actively contributes to local outreach initiatives by participating in events geared towards high school and community college students.
In this capacity, the individual operates independently while seeking guidance in unusual or particularly intricate situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Eleven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Master’s degree in related area plus five years of related experience/training.
Advanced knowledge in theoretical concepts of adult learning.
Knowledge on methodologies to enhance student success.
Background working with graduate level students.
Advanced knowledge of a broad academic discipline or learning needs of a broad student category.
Strong background in anatomy, histology, and related subjects for graduate-level education Advanced knowledge of specific learning styles, linguistic issues.
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Knowledge of academic curricula.
Knowledge in designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models.
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Interpersonal skills.
Effective communication skills on an individual basis or in a group setting (small or large).
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Advanced knowledge on research and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.
g.
, discipline specific, student-population specific).
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Supervisory skills to hire, train, and provide coaching and guidance to student workers and student interns.
Strong background in the biomedical sciences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS PhD in biomedical sciences.
Experience developing Anatomy curriculum in a graduate medical education setting.
Current UC San Diego Health Sciences employee.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $35.
