SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant assumes a pivotal role in diligently managing financial records to monitor the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other pertinent financial activities.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a meticulous attention to detail and the capacity to operate independently following comprehensive training.

Prepare and file Sales and Use tax returns monthly and quarterly in multiple states.
Responsible for accurate and timely processing of all Fixed Asset transactions in the Fixed Asset sub-ledger including additions, acquisitions, transfers, retirements, impairments, reclassifications per GAAP and company policies.
Responsible for issuing capital purchase orders, processing capital invoices, and reconciling open purchase orders quarterly.
Responsible for completing detailed fixed asset audits to ensure accurate reporting.
Prepare and record system generated depreciation.
Support monthly and year-end financial closes, including assigned journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset reconciliations, and accruals.
Verify the accuracy of data, and identify and correct errors made by internal and external personnel.
Responsible for investigating and responding to customer chargeback requests.
Assist in providing schedules and commentary for general ledger account results and variances.
Generate regular financial reports, including balance sheet, income and cash flow statements.
Prepares year-end audit work papers for external audits.
Assists with special projects.
Works closely with non-accounting personnel and leadership in the use and interpretation of accounting data.
Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, standards, and relevant regulations.
Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, health.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The minimum requirement for applicants is an Associate's Degree in a related field (Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent is accounting preferred); plus at least one year of related fixed asset accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess strong attention to detail, critical thinking, problem solving, analytical, and accuracy skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, complete tasks independently, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in understanding and use of personal computers, Excel, Word, e-mail, and 10-key adding machine or calculator skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and understand English.
Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.
Ability to write policies, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, subordinates, vendors, other departments, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATIC SKILLS: Requires understanding of financial record-keeping methods, procedures and practices.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic math, algebra, and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Must be able to utilize a computer.
Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines including a 10-key calculator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demand requirements are at levels for sedentary work.
Must be able to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machines, fax machines, and to operate a 10-key calculator.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; handle objects; keypad, papers or books.
Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk/move.
Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 10 pounds.
Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds.
WORK CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: Work is regularly performed in a traditional office setting.
There may be exposure to airborne particles created from incoming boxes and merchandise.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION: A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer of employment is extended by the company and accepted by the applicant and must be satisfactorily completed prior to any applicant beginning work in a full-time, part-time non-student, or sensitive student capacity with Aztec Shops Ltd.
