Mental Health Worker / Therapist
Health Sciences High and Middle College is a Charter High School School located in City Heights San Diego, CA serving students in grades 9-12.
_*Job Purpose:*_
To support students with their mental, academic, social, and emotional needs.
The Mental Health Worker/Therapist will support the school culture including promoting mental wellness and healthy relationships.
_*Education-Based Qualifications:*_
* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; and
* Master’s Degree Mental Health related field; and
* Personnel Pupil Services Credential (recommended); and
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in mental health/therapy work; and
* CPR Certification

The School Counselor must have the ability to
* establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, families, administrators, general educators, educational specialists, and support staff.
* communicate effectively orally and in writing.
* report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
* perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the school culture and focus.
* implement relevant technology within the classroom curriculum and setting.
* meet professional counseling requirements of school/district and state.
_*Job Duties and Responsibilities:*_
· Develop and maintain a regular caseload of students to support
· Effectively counsel students in 1 on 1 or small group settings to support their academic, social, and emotional needs
· Promote effective relationships amongst students and between students and teachers.
· Maintain relationships with the families of students to support student success and wellness.
· Collaborate with teaches and other staff members to support student mental health
· Monitor students’ academic progress and provide appropriate feedback on work.
· Collaborate with administrators, general educators, educational specialists, and support staff.
· Communicate with families and parents to discuss academic progress when there are concerns and celebrations.
· Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, HSHMC policies and school regulations.
· Attend restorative conferences as needed.
*Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following*
· Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
· Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
· Participate in appropriate professional learning activities.
· Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
· Other duties as assigned.
_*Working Conditions (Physical Requirements and Environment):*_
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move items.
