Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
Primary Responsibilities/Function: As a Wellness Coach, you'll be an integral part of the High School Wellness Centers, managing student walk-ins and providing support to students on self-regulation and social-emotional skill building.
As part of the school's Care Team, you will provide parent engagement and outreach of identified at-risk students to support student interventions.
You will be a leader in supporting and developing youth-driven behavioral health and wellness services and programs for students and families, which may include student clubs, student/parent workshops, and classroom presentations.
You'll work collaboratively with dedicated wellness champions, educators and student groups, contributing your knowledge to enhance our students' lives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Wellness Center Support Welcome students into the Wellness Center and determine what services they need access to (connection to Wellness Center Coordinator, appointment with behavioral health provider or community partner).
Provide check-ins with students who express the need for calming space or self-regulation to provide skill building or referral to Wellness Center Coordinator, if needed.
Youth-Driven Services and Programs: Engage with students and student groups and clubs to drive health advocacy efforts and foster a culture of health equity.
In collaboration with Wellness Center Coordinator, identify areas of opportunity to provide workshops, classroom presentations and/or assemblies.
Support student wellness campaigns and student-led clubs, focusing on mental health issues at high schools, which may include raising mental health awareness, educating the community, supporting students, promoting students, and advocating for more support.
Parent and Family Engagement As part of the Care Team, conduct parent/family outreach and engagement and may include home visits to support behavioral interventions.
Support parents by providing parent presentations and support groups to address behavioral health concerns, may be based on peer coaching model.
Provide care navigation or referral pathways for families.
Participate in School Behavioral Health Incentive Program (SBHIP) and Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiatives (CYBHI): As part of the Wellness Center, participate in the CYBHI All-Payer Fee Schedule pilot.
This may include: Participating in the billing structure for allowable services provided to students and families in the district.
Supervision will be provided by your organization.
Participating in training required for the Fee Schedule pilot.
Providing feedback to District staff overseeing Fee Schedule pilot.
Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to Director of Community & Youth Services.

Minimum Requirements, including linguistic and cultural skills, education, experiences, licenses and certifications: Demonstrated experience working with youth, specifically middle and high school aged youth.
Excellent youth positive presentation skills and experience with community outreach, public speaking, group management, and mentoring.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of social-emotional well-being and evidence-based strategies to foster resilience in adolescents.
Commitment to health equity and a demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing underserved communities.
Must have a satisfactory driving record.
Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Basic knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel) and web navigation.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Reliable and consistent attendance.
