Position overview Position title: Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step.
The base pay range for this position is $600,000 - $725,000.
Salary is negotiated annually.
Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position description The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Department of Surgery (https://surgery.
ucsd.
edu/), and Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego (https://www.
rchsd.
org/) are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.
We are seeking academic physicians to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Rady Children’s is the largest free-standing children’s hospital in California with a total of 551 active beds and is affiliated with the University of California at San Diego.
The Heart Institute is one of the core initiatives at Rady Children’s and is composed of 30 physicians and supported by over 100 staff.
The program provides all levels of congenital heart care ranging from the fetus to the adult, including transplant, at two main sites that include Rady Children’s Hospital and the University of California at San Diego.
The program has a fully staffed and devoted pediatric cardiac intensive care unit/inpatient unit that provides 24/7 in-house attending level coverage.
The program ranks consistently among top heart and heart surgery programs in USNWR and performs a total of 350 operations per year with 250-300 STS Index operations annually.
The congenital heart surgeon’s support another 50 to 100 adult congenital operations performed at UCSD university hospital with the adult team.
The prospective surgeons would become part of our integrated multidisciplinary Heart Institute and would support the director of cardiothoracic surgery in the continued evolution of this regional congenital heart surgery initiative.
The successful candidates will also serve an important role in support of the growing adult congenital surgery service.
The selected candidates will be responsible for the clinical care of patients and teaching.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

org Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have a MD or equivalent and must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates must also be Board certified/eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and be Board certified/eligible in congenital heart surgery subspecialty and have completed an approved ACGME congenital heart fellowship.
Candidates must have experience in congenital heart failure, heart transplant, heart mechanical assist and adult congenital.
