Position description THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego (https://chemistry.
ucsd.
edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, LPSOE) .
This faculty series, which is unique to the University of California system, carries full membership in the Academic Senate with comparable rights and responsibilities as the standard professorial track, but with a greater emphasis on teaching and educational scholarship.
The candidate will have skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The main focus of teaching is Organic Chemistry lectures and laboratories.
Teaching in introductory chemistry for both lectures and laboratory courses will be expected.
UC San Diego is on a quarter system, and the incumbent will teach an annual load of 5 classes, one- two per quarter, across fall, winter and spring.
Teaching Faculty are expected to conduct scholarly activities in the area of Chemical Education.
In addition, teaching faculty are expected to participate in the Section, Department, Division, campus, University, and/or outside professional or public service through committee and other administrative work.
A successful candidate should have a well-defined plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences.

Preferred qualifications Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in teaching at the undergraduate level; interest and/or experience with emerging pedagogical trends and curricular development, particularly in the area of chemistry and Organic Chemistry/Chemical Biology (both the lecture and laboratory learning environments); an interest in or prior accomplishment with educational grant writing, educational project or program development and assessment, and/or chemical education research; and previous experience and/or strong commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and climate of UC San Diego.
