*POSITION SUMMARY*
Teachers at Harriet Tubman Village Charter School (“HTVCS”) believe in the mission and vision of the school and are interested in developing themselves and students as lifelong learners.
Teachers must be student centered, collaborative, creative educators that embrace change.
* Classification: Full Time, Exempt * Supervisor: CEO & Principal *DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* The following duties and responsibilities are essential functions of the position, in addition to any duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time: * Implement and engage students in the instructional program * Supervise students as assigned * Actively participate in professional development * Maintain up to date records and provide necessary documentation of students work * Instruct students in a classroom setting and foster a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning * Develop and implement appropriate and effective lesson plans and curriculum that align to California Common Core State Standards to achieve instructional objectives and employ a variety of instructional strategies to augment student achievement * Monitor and record student attendance * Determine and implement student disciplinary and remedial measures and maintain appropriate records of the same * Evaluate students and grade their work * Prepare students for and implement testing (CAASPP, ELPAC, PFT, etc.
) * Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, co-workers and other stakeholders * Maintain regular contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone or written/electronic communications * Encourage parental involvement * Adhere to established laws, policies, rules and regulations, including those policies and procedures adopted by HTVCS *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES* * Critical, constructive thinkers able to adapt to the changing needs of adolescents and teenagers * Effective communicators that are able to meet all the contracted expectations for the delivery of information to the administration, parents and students * Act a informed decision makers in the day to day delivery of instruction and classroom management * Be able to effectively use technology to deliver instruction, communicate with stakeholders and be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff, students and community groups * Knowledge of prescribed curriculum and child development * Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills and use effective, positive interpersonal skills * Basic knowledge of technology * Planning and organizational skills * Ability to supervise and manage students * Skill in analyzing, diagnosing and evaluating student progress and programs * Knowledge of varied learning styles *MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution * Certification by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing or enrollment in or completion of a teacher training program at an accredited university * Track record of successful and/or exemplary teaching experience *PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS* Must be able to hear, speak and see, and possess cognitive and physical abilities necessary to exchange information, utilize a computer; read, prepare, and proofread written materials, and provide instruction.
Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Must have dexterity of hands and fingers needed to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
May have occasional exposure to challenging/difficult parents, staff, and public and private representatives.
The position occasionally kneels, bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information, and lifts and carries objects that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
