The Learning Support Specialist is responsible for the care, support, and academic support of students with special needs in grades PK – 8.
- S/he organizes his/her schedule according to the needs of the students and their schedules, from 8:10 a.
m.
to 4:15 p.
m.
five days per week.
- S/he assesses student needs and develops an individual student support plan for each student.
- S/he makes recommendations related to his/her area(s) of expertise, to assist teachers in the daily care of students with special needs.
- S/he provides communication to parents by proposing meetings several times a year and writing reports on the work done and the progress of students.
- S/he intervenes in the classes or in the room dedicated to individualized learning support, in agreement with the teachers of the pupils concerned.
- S/he establishes external contacts with specialists and, as needed, therapists/psychologists to facilitate early diagnosis or better management of the most difficult cases.
The Learning Support Coordinator works closely with the teaching staff and division directors and reports to the Head of School.
With them, s/he ensures the success and well-being of students with special needs within the San Diego French American School.
*Qualifications and experience:*
*•Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field related to the area of assignment (Master’s Degree preferred); or, a liberal arts or teaching degree with related certifications in special needs students and learning profile issues (e.
g.
ADD/ADHD, dyslexia-dysgraphia-dyscalculia, executive functioning disorder, autism/Asperger’s spectrum disorder, etc.
)*
*•Multiple years of experience and demonstrated excellence as a pedagogue and/or learning coach or tutor*
*•Bilingual English-French is strongly preferred (but not required).
English is mandatory.

*•Prior experience in an international or French-American school setting is preferred but not required*
*•Strong commitment to independent school education and a particular enthusiasm for bilingual/international *
*education*
*•Strong oral and written skills; superior interpersonal and collaboration skills.

*•Excellent computer skills (word/excel/Google Apps, etc.
)*
*•Demonstrated understanding of SDFAS’s mission and values*
*•Ability to maintain an effective and positive working relationship with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.
