Cristo Rey San Diego seeks a mission-driven, innovative, collaborative, student focused, and community-centered *Assistant Principal of Instruction & Curriculum* to serve as one of the formational leaders at Cristo Rey San Diego.
Assistant Principal of School Instruction & Curriculum reports directly to the school’s Principal and serves as a critical member of the school’s academic administrative team.
*About the School:* Cristo Rey San Diego High School is the 37th school in a growing national network of Catholic high schools recognized for transforming Catholic education through a unique integration of rigorous academics, professional experience, and spiritual formation.
For the 2023-2024 school year, Cristo Rey San Diego will graduate its first class of first-generation Seniors of limited financial means.
Cristo Rey’s innovative model calls for our students to attend class four days per week and work in a professional setting five days per month through our Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP).
While some of our students will enter high school below grade-level academically, it is the collective mission of our staff to ensure that our students gain admission to—and ultimately graduate from—college.
In pursuit of that goal, Cristo Rey has a longer school day and an extended academic year, and our teachers innovate, plan, reflect, and practice so that they maximize their impact in the classroom.
*The Position* _Who We Seek_ Cristo Rey San Diego High School now seeks an Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum.
The Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum is responsible for ensuring the continued growth of our teaching staff, mentoring and coaching new and returning faculty members, and that our instructional and grading practices ensure equity and break down barriers typical for students of our population.
In addition, the Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum helps to guarantee that our classroom learning aligns with State and Network standards and benchmarks, that the resources utilized are offering chances for deeper Depth of Knowledge critical thinking skills while also infusing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills into classroom instruction, and that Cristo Rey San Diego students graduate with the necessary skills to succeed in college and beyond.
The Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum helps to create and sustain a culture of high expectations and continual support for all teachers and students, as well as promoting and enforcing a school environment that is professional and respectful of others.
The Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum is a member of the administrative team.
*School Leadership and Administration Roles and Responsibilities:* ● As a member of the Instructional Leadership Team set clear expectations and standards for academic success.
● Be a regular presence in classrooms, informally observing and following-up with teachers and students in order to support a positive learning environment, engaging learning opportunities, and high expectations for student work and outcomes.
● Promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude, and establish an environment that supports social, emotional, and academic development in students.
● Growth-mindset leadership, advocacy, and responsibility for consistent implementation of school wide culture and academic goals for teachers and students.
● Collaborate with academic staff (content leads, grade level leads, AP of school culture, AP of school academics) to support sharing of best practices and cultivate an academic growth and results-oriented culture.
● Participate in other roles related to being a part of the school community, including attending campus ministry retreats, supporting work study initiatives, and leading student clubs.
● Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Cristo Rey Network End of Year Assessments, Skyrocket Framework, and data analysis.
● Co-lead summer professional development programs for all teachers.
● Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of highly effective teachers and staff.
● Provide ongoing professional development aligned to best practices and schoolwide needs.
● Collect/share data on schoolwide trends.
● Collaborate with the administrative team and the admissions team to ensure successful new student orientations.
● Supervise the daily arrival and departure of students in order to ensure student safety.
● Contribute to future strategic planning processes for the school and updates to any school wide plans, such as MER and WCEA.
● Act as part of the leadership team for any future accreditation processes that may be undertaken.
● Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
● Implement the Cristo Rey San Diego Instructional Vision * CRSD Vision for the Instructional Core * CRSD Grading Practices 23-24 * Operationalizing Equity: High Quality Materials, Grading Practices, and Multiple Attempts at Mastery at CRSD * 23-23 Warm Demander Framework and MTSS at CRSD *Assistant Principal of School Instruction & Curriculum Roles and Responsibilities:* ● Collaborate with academic staff on the successful execution, measurement, and achievement of instructional goals ● Celebrate growth of instructional practices while continuing to support and guide teachers to keep growing.
● Analyze instruction and assessment data in order to inform academic decisions, professional development, and teacher coaching to meet students’ needs and academic goals ● Prepare for and conduct weekly observations and coaching one-on-ones for six teachers per quarter to ensure the implementation of rigorous, engaging, high-impact, college preparatory lessons that accelerate student academic growth and differentiate for the needs of individual students ● Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement and provide feedback to teachers through instructional coaching ● Support teachers by helping with the ―strategic how of teaching -- share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
Informally observe lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success ● Lead Content Team Leads in building routines to promote a culture of continuous improvement ● Collaborate with academic staff in the planning of professional development to invest in teacher growth and ensure best instruction and assessment practices across all classrooms ● Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs ● Collaborate with the Student Success Team on teacher implementation of student intervention systems of support/challenge ● Assist the Assistant Principal of Academics and NWEA MAP testing initiatives and data analysis ● Collaborate in the development of systems to celebrate teacher growth and success ● Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc.
to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources (Beable, IXL, etc.
) ● Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels ● Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students ● Co-design instructional units aligned to rich assessments ● Provide access to high quality curricular materials and training (APSI, SVMI etc.
) ● Train and provide ongoing support to content team leads ● Support faculty with induction and/or clear credential process ● Work with the Assistant Principal of Academics and the Principal to build an Academic Vision for classroom design and student instruction, Vision for a Graduate of Cristo Rey San Diego ● As needed, work with students and teachers to mediate conversations about learning and teaching *Additional Skills* ● Experience in designing, implementing, and assessing curricula and teaching practices to serve a heterogeneous student population diverse in culture, religion, and ability ● Experience in leading teams to meet or exceed qualitative and quantitative goals/outcomes ● Experience in developing processes that drives teacher instructional growth and student academic growth ● Experience collaborating with team members and providing constructive and instructive feedback ● Ability to work both on board-based strategy and everyday details and assess the need to change priorities ● Independent, self starter with a strong focus on both teacher and student development ● Proficiency in using technology in the classroom to enhance student learning ● Deep commitment to students of limited economic means ● Ability to build a shared vision and inspire commitment to a mission ● Ability to build relationships with a diverse staff and parent community ● Ability to plan in a manner that anticipates barriers and recognizes school-wide needs ● Strong collaboration with others and the willingness to solicit input prior to developing strategies and solutions ● Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve excellence in the workplace ● Openness to feedback, willingness to help out in new situations as needed by the Principal and APs.
● Ability to think critically and reflectively, and to prioritize effectively ● Openness to growth and a commitment to continuous learning ● Strong written and oral communication skills *Physical Requirements* ● Spend the majority of the day standing and/ or walking around, sit on an occasional basis ● Be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish/school facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events ● Conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events ● Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks ● Walk on both even and uneven surfaces ● Ascend and descend stairs and ramps ● Kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending while working with students ● Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class ● Assist in moving children’s desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation.
It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.
Carrying can be up to 200 feet and varies.
