Speech and Debate Coach

*Cogito COACH Qualifications: * *1.
**Education Background:* · A *bachelor's degree* in a relevant field such as communication, English, education, or a related discipline is required.
Advanced degree is mostly welcome.

**Experience in Speech and Debate :* · Extensive experience in participating in or coaching speech and debate activities is crucial.
Having background in competitive debate, forensics, or related activities.

**Knowledge of Speech and Debate Formats:* · Familiarity with different speech and debate formats such as MS and HS Parliamentary Debate, SPAR Debate, Lincoln-Douglas, Policy Debate, and various speech events is essential.
Coaches should understand the rules, structures, and judging criteria of these format.

**Communication Skills: * · Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are important.
Coaches need to effectively convey concepts, provide feedback to students, and communicate with other coaches and judges.

**Teaching and Leadership Skills: * · The ability to teach and mentor students is crucial.
Coaches should be able to inspire, motivate, and guide students in improving their speaking and debating skills.
Leadership skills are valuable for managing a team.

**Analytical and Critical Thinking: * · Coaches should possess analytical and critical thinking skills to help students develop arguments, analyze information, and improve their overall debating abilities.

**Organization Skills: * · Effective organization is important for managing team activities, scheduling competitions, and coordinating travel arrangements for tournaments.

Networking: * · Build a network within the speech and debate community can be beneficial.
This includes connecting with other coaches, attending workshops or conferences, and staying informed about current trends and topics.

Cogito Debate is a WASC accredited academic after school program since 2017 and is launching its Franchise business from 2024.
