The Native School is growing! Demand for outdoor forest school classes has increased exponentially.
We're seeking an Outdoor Educator who is passionate about providing emergent outdoor curriculum for children 2.
5-4 years of age.
Candidates must possess enthusiasm for outdoor education, in turn giving young students a truly unique and rewarding learning experience.
The Native School is an outdoor Reggio Emilia and Scandinavian inspired Forest School, comprised of two outdoor classes: Forest Kindergarten (4-6 yrs) and Piccola PreK (2-4 yrs).
Both classes utilize outdoor nature preserves as our 'classroom' and are held M-Th mornings.
We are adding a new Forest Kinder class this Fall at a new location in North County San Diego.
Our Mission: The Native School is dedicated to providing place-based outdoor education, fostering a love for learning and curiosity, while simultaneously deepening a child's intellectual understanding of and emotional connection to nature and our environment.
We're a small team that values collaboration, authenticity and the ability to wear multiple hats and pitch in on team projects.
As an outdoor forest school, teachers are exposed to the elements every day.
Working outside in nature has too many benefits to list, however our teachers must be resilient and adaptable to changing circumstances when outdoors.
Our program is growing and we're looking for the right person to grow with us! Teachers and interns receive a great deal of professional development, such as introductory training for utilizing Orton-Gillingham approaches for early literacy, the art of narration, field training, etc.
allowing anyone who joins our team to learn much more than in traditional teaching positions and schools.
Our teaching professionals are invested in our program, as we are mutually invested in them.
*Qualifications:* 1) A minimum of 12 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development (excluding field work), including at least one course in one of the following core areas: * Child/Human Growth and Development * Child, Family, and Community, or Child and Family Relations * Programs/Curriculum/Education 2) Experience working with young children 3) Must have, or be in pursuit of a BA in early childhood development, environmental science, or related field.
4) Training in Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and DOJ background check clearance.
5) Reliability and authenticity are a must.
6) Strong writing and communication skills.
7) Enthusiastic and hearty attitude *Skills preferred:* * Passion for the great outdoors; hiking, biking, camping, nature studies, etc.
* Passion or avid interest in outdoor learning * Passion or avid interest in Reggio Emilia teaching practices * K8 certificated teacher *Schedule:* * Monday - Thursday from 8am - 4pm * full-time approx.
