The Director holds key responsibilities in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive strategic advancement program to establish and expand fundraising, gift giving, grants, community engagement, and related investments in College and District programs.
This position is highly focused on major gifts and increasing donor stewardship.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in this classification build, implement and manage the District’s resource development programs, particularly focused on the San Diego Promise Program, increasing donor (particularly major donor) investments, and working in conjunction with the San Diego Community College District Foundation staff.
The Director has an opportunity to build a thriving development team and works cooperatively with College and District managers and external stakeholders to coordinate activities and programs with District Office and other College development offices and foundations.
Incumbents are responsible for fostering and supporting a culture of philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and advocacy for College and District programs that provide supports for student persistence and success.

In collaboration with the Vice Chancellor of Development and Entrepreneurship or assigned manager, direct, plan, and organize activities in support of establishing strategic priorities, goals, and objectives for the development program within the District’s overall strategic plan for fund and grant development.

Implement strategies to increase community awareness and support for the District’s programs, services, and activities; and to enhance the District’s profile for future investments, donations, and grant awards.

Participate in all aspects of the donor cycle, including research, identification, establishment, and management of major and annual gifts, donations, investments, and related support for District programs and activities.

Event planning, organizing, implementing, and follow-up.

Build and maintain positive and sustainable relationships with organizations and individuals related to the development program.

Oversee the San Diego Promise Program annual fund drive and ongoing fundraising efforts, including the implementation of progressing and innovative donor outreach campaigns.

Manage the implementation of select grants under the responsibility of the Office of Development and Entrepreneurship.

Plan, organize, and host events, meetings, and introductory programs to engage philanthropic and grant supporters in College and District events.
Provide campus tours, introduce and connect stakeholders, recognize significant contributions and outcomes, and increase awareness of the District’s development initiatives.

Lead and support District grant application procedures, including collaborate with relevant District or College staff and offices to prepare and submit applications, assist with grant writing, measure progress and performance, support and implement compliance measures, and provide reports as needed.

Provide philanthropy educational information and opportunities to the Vice Chancellor or assigned manager and District Leadership on a regular basis.

Engage in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts, grants, planned gifts, and other philanthropic contributions.

As assigned, engage with the Office of Finance and Business Services in support of the San Diego Community College Auxiliary Organization (Foundation) to manage program and foundation budgets, accounting, and expenditures; and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
14.
Represent the Vice Chancellor of Development and Entrepreneurship at Chancellor’s Cabinet meetings when needed and assist when the Vice Chancellor is away from the office.
15.
Represent the District at community events, board meetings, and committee meetings to foster productive relationships with donor prospects 16.
Collaborate with others in the District and at the Colleges on development initiatives.
17.
Routinely evaluate the District’s development program performance, progress toward goals and objectives, identify opportunities to increase productivity and performance, develop and implement strategies to improve performance, and provide executive reports to the Vice Chancellor of Development and Entrepreneurship.

Work with the office of Public Information to provide timely and effective communications to District and College students and employees; donors and financial supporters; industry partners; federal, state, and local agencies; auditors; the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, and others as necessary for effective program operations.

Participate in planning, organizing, and directing development operations, including assessing training and professional development needs for assigned staff and providing training opportunities; and participating in the hiring and onboarding of new staff.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules.

This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime.
