DESCRIPTION The Risk Management Program is comprised of the Workers’ Compensation Program and the General Liability Program.
The UC San Diego Risk Management Program is charged with managing/financing all claims filed against UC San Diego, implementing the UC Insurance Program on campus, and advising UC San Diego Department managers, staff and students on effective loss prevention strategies to reduce claims costs.
The General Liability Program Risk Analyst 2 will work under general supervision of the Director of Risk Manager.
Responsibilities include case management of general liability and property claims.
The incumbent will coordinate cases and process subpoenas for UC San Diego students.
Provide analytic analysis to risk management programmatic activities, develop data to support insurance underwriting requests, and conduct education and training programs for faculty, students and staff.
Use professional enterprise risk management concepts and apply organizational policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complicated issues.
Work on casualty, property, employee injury, and loss prevention programs and services where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
Must be available for occasional after hours, or weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political science, or an allied field, and progressive experience in administrative analysis in the risk management or insurance fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge in the following areas: risk management; insurance; forecasting and analysis; and accounting.
Knowledge of commercial insurance principles and claims management practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of Risk Management principles and practices and loss control management including: risk reduction, accident prevention, property protection, occupational health and hygiene, and risk financing.
Knowledge of contract and business law.
Proven ability to read and comprehend legal and litigation documents.
Ability to analyze and interpret contractual documents, terms and conditions, insurance and indemnification clauses.
Proven ability to analyze large quantities of data, extract pertinent data, compile financial and non-financial models, analyze and present data effectively, and prepare accurate reports in various formats.
Demonstrated ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing.
Proven knowledge of common computer application programs.
Proven ability to use Word processing software and Excel spreadsheet software at an intermediate to advanced level and knowledge of Access database software.
Demonstrated ability to use PowerPoint.
Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong ability to independently initiate, develop, and plan work from general conceptual discussions and work independently exercising professional judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills with ability to negotiate and establish working relationships with University constituencies and external entities.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS DOJ/FBI and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License.
