DESCRIPTION The Department of Psychology (https://psy.
ucsd.
edu/) consistently ranks among the top experimental psychology programs in the country.
There are approximately 30 ladder-rank faculty, 20 research faculty, 35 staff and 66 graduate students in the department.
This position serves as a Financial Analyst, assisting with the fiscal administration of departmental funds for the Department of Psychology, under the general supervision of the Fiscal Operations Manager (FOM).
This position will perform moderately complex fiscal reporting and analysis to summarize data from internal and external sources to make reports, budgets, and recommendations for the FOM; document procedures; review monthly financial reports to include long and short term projections; and ensure compliance with Department and University guidelines.
The incumbent will also assist in streamlining fiscal processes and implementing technical solutions to improve financial reporting.
Under general supervision the incumbent will additionally provide moderate analytical and financial support for research proposal processing, contract and grant administration, and budget development.
This includes pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors.
This position will review proposals to ensure institutional compliance and manage awards in compliance with regulations, terms and conditions.
This position is also responsible for processing, reviewing, and approving departmental financial transactions, and planning and organizing departmental talk series, faculty candidate visits, and department-wide events.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Overtime may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
Experience using accounting and other business systems for financial reporting, transaction preparation and reconciliation, and correcting errors.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Interpret policies and procedures and apply them to routine as well as unique and complex situations.
Analyze and interpret changes on University policy to determine effect on processes and make recommendations on implementation of changes to management.
Ability to develop and maintain filing systems.
Familiarity with OMB circulars such as Uniform Guidance, A-21, A110 and principles of cost accounting standards, including allowability, allocability, and reasonableness; federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
Knowledge of and skill in using a variety of software programs to develop databases, reports, and correspondence.
Demonstrated experience with Google Suites.
Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments.
Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
Ability to write accurate and detailed correspondence, reports, and documentation of department procedures.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
Ability to exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
