What you’ll do: As an Internal Audit Manager (SOX PMO), you will help shape the future of AppFolio’s internal controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR), transforming the program and playing an integral part in compliance activities.
You will manage the successful end-to-end completion of our SOX program, including co-sourced resources.
You must be comfortable managing a large program, working with all business process owners and communicating risk to management and external auditors.
This role will initially focus on SOX compliance, but have the flexibility to help with other areas of risk and control as needed.
The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Program Management Office (PMO) at AppFolio, is part of the Internal Audit Function and is responsible for the successful execution of the SOX program, including assessing the company’s design, implementation, and execution of internal controls.
The PMO facilitates risk assessment and scoping to determine project scope of each reporting year.
We prepare the internal control assessment plan and accompanying timelines, inclusive of scheduling and conducting process walkthroughs for each process with process/control owners.
From the walkthroughs, you will oversee and assist in the updating of control descriptions and process flowcharts.
Our team reviews current and prior-year control deficiencies to determine the remediation status.
We prepare control deficiency reports and monitor/follow-up on remediation efforts.
We meet with external auditors as necessary to provide status updates and remediation efforts of ongoing work.
The SOX PMO also facilitates the SOC1 audits and associated reporting executed by our service auditors.
Additionally, the SOX PMO partners with the business to provide internal control over financial reporting associated with emerging areas/products, mergers and acquisitions and conducts SOX Readiness assessments, inclusive of creating the Risk and Control matrices and flowcharts.
What we’re looking for: Vision: Communicate and execute the vision for AppFolio’s SOX Program.
Benchmark the program and drive improvements that increase program maturity.
Work cross-functionally with business leaders to improve and automate controls.
Help management identify and build controls into future systems and processes, including a future ERP implementation.
Build long-term relationship with key cross-functional stakeholders.
Program Management: Manage the SOX Program from end-to-end, including the management of external resources.
Track program status and issues using AuditBoard.
Manage the SOX 302 certification process.
Risk Assessment: Work cross-functionally with business process owners to identify risks and associated controls in each area.
Assess fraud risk within various business processes.
Keep current with Financial Compliance requirements and best practices.
Communication: Work with business process owners to identify and communicate risks to stakeholders.
Communicate program status and deficiencies to management.
Summarize program status and issues for the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Desired Skills & Experience: Solid technical, accounting, business process, and audit and controls experience.
5+ years of a combination of SOX, audit, controls, business process or risk management experience is required (Big4 is a plus).
Should have basic knowledge of IT SOX, ITGCs, ITACs, ICFR, COSO Framework, and baseline understanding of technology controls.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is a plus.
Practical knowledge of US GAAP, SEC Reporting and PCAOB Requirements.
The base salary/hourly wage that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $105,000- $150,000.
The actual base salary/hourly wage for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.
Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package.
The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses/commissions that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
