Future SDAIHC – San Diego American Indian Health Center Summary: Process accounts payable, receivable, prepare reconciliations on a monthly basis, month end close, and back up to Senior Accountant and Payroll & Benefits Specialist.
Position is in office, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Processes all received invoices for payment, including verifying amounts for accuracy, confirming approval by appropriate personnel, printing checks and obtaining signatures Ensures new vendors set up and vetted Prepares annual 1099’s Assist with operating budget preparation Prepare and submit annual financial reports to regulatory agency Prepare and book journal entries for month-end close, including depreciation, prepaid expenses, and other accruals Prepare various account reconciliation schedules Assist with year-end audit preparation for internal and external audits Assist with cash receipts and bank deposits Perform work in collaboration with key stakeholders Act as a resource to others on Ad hoc projects Work cross-functionally with department management and others to improve workflow Document procedures as needed.
Provide required information on time and with a high degree of accuracy and transparency Ability to work independently and multi-task, with a strong attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively; excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong PC skills, including solid experience with standard Microsoft products, especially Excel Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective work relationships with coworkers, clients, members, providers and customers Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Qualifications Education and/or Experience: Sufficient training and experience is required to demonstrate the ability to perform the above duties and responsibilities and to attain the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
Required Education: Degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field Preferred Education: Bachelor in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Healthcare Required Experience: 1-3 years of experience working in accounting function Preferred Experience: previous experience working in FQHC, grant funded nonprofit organization Additional requirements as listed below: Commitment to working in the Native American and surrounding community Commitment to community health care Familiarity with community health clinics and/or Indian Health Clinics preferred Language Skills: Able to read and comprehend at a college level; able to communicate professionally in person and in writing.
Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Apply logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches, solutions or conclusions in order to effectively resolve problems.
Strong character and use of discretion with highly confidential information.
Regularly takes the initiative to recognize problems and clearly explain potential solutions.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software, Microsoft Office applications.
